Thank you for this.

I had an eye opening experience a little after my children were born. I realized that these two boys would grow up thinking of me as the pattern of what a man is supposed to be. When I thought of that, I decided that I had to be as good a man as I could be, which meant rooting out exactly those sorts of violations of the categorical imperative.

Even if I don't preach what I practice, I hope that what I practice is worthy of emulation, because it will be emulated.

Fortunately, I had another job 2 days later but wow! Not so bad for me but fellow IT staff with larger families had it a bit tougher.

Strange out there sometimes. Guess it is all a learning process no matter IT or life.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I'll take it out of the political world for a second. One thing I've always tried to do is: "Surround yourself with smart people, and then say something stupid" Of course, not stupid intentionally, but you get my drift. If you never tell anyone what you believe, there is never an opportunity for someone to challenge that belief, and ultimately lead to further insight. You may not completely agree with what they said, but you will never be able to grow without putting yourself out there. So, certainly preach what you practice, but when someone challenges what you're preaching, internalize it, and use it to get better.
